Midlands Championships 2023

Venue: The Sports Arena. Kettering.

We took just 9 students to the Midlands Championships on 29th January. This was the first competition of the year with over 700 students coming from far and wide to take part.

Competing students: Martin Yung age 43, Elliott Yung age 8, Eason Yung age 10, Cian Casey-Bond age 8, Annabelle Murphy age 8, Robert Anderson age 16, Jodie Roffey age 37, Isaac Mullender age 8 and Joshua Mullender age 10.

Club officials were John and Jo Anderson.

The competition started as always with Patterns. Eason got us off to a good start winning Silver in Boys Red belt division. Cian having grown since he last competed went up a division and still picked up a hard fought Bronze in Lightweight individual sparring. This was followed with Gold for Annabelle and Elliott in Pee wee tag team sparring.

Joshua and Isaac both won their first two fights but lost the third so just missed out on the medals. Win or lose competing is a great experience and we continued our proud record of winning trophies in every competition entered since the club started in 2006.

A great start to the year and especially pleased with Eason picking up Silver in Red belt patterns. Eason and brother Elliott are both on track to take their black belt grading this year and their performances today proved they are more than ready to catch up with dad.
