Birmingham Arena— Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd July 2018
Hosted by the Taekwondo Association of Great Britain, 22 countries sent their competitors to compete in an exciting selection of events in the Taekwondo World Championship. The two-day tournament saw some of the world’s best fighters, patterns technicians and destruction champions come together to battle it out for the title of World Champion. There are also coloured belt divisions where people of all ages and abilities can also try their skill alongside the great champions.
Josh Deller: Cadet Middle weight red belt sparring.
Suliman Khan: Boys red belt middleweight sparring and patterns
Christine Abbott:Ladies black belt flyweight sparring and patterns
Nick Chapman: Mens heavyweight Executive sparring and patterns
Michael Barford: Mens middleweight Executive sparring and patterns
Suzanne Wolfe: Super executive patterns
Colin Mowatt: Super executive patterns
On the first day Suliman was competing in both patterns and Sparring.
His patterns performance was excellent but just outside of placing for a medal.
In his sparring event he won his first 3 fights to pick up a well deserved Bronze.
Christine also competed in Ladies black belt point stop sparring and patterns. In patterns she tied for 3rd place and just lost out on a bronze in a play off.
Day 2 was for black belts and Cadets.
Josh was moved up to the Middleweight division and won his first round 5-4 with a brave display against a taller opponent before losing the next round to the eventual gold medal winner.
Colin, Suzanne,Michael and Nick also failed to medal in massive executive divisions.
Christine was the last of our students to spar and had 3 hard fought fights to reach the final. Her opponent in the final was one of Polands most feared competitors. After the first 2 minute round Christine was just behind and it looked like going either way. Putting everything she had left into the last 2 minutes she sparred as well as she we've ever seen to get the judges unanimous decision and become ladies black belt flyweight world champion.A fantastic achievement.
We are very proud of everyone of our students and over the moon to now have a World Champion amongst our ranks.
